Veinwave™ Information Guide

veinwave treament, for thread veins, spider veins and red veins in hampshire

Thread, spider or red thread veins of the legs and face are a common problem which mostly affect women. On the legs these small veins can form anywhere from the top of the thigh to the ankle. While these veins pose no major health problems, they can cause discomfort and be unsightly. Veinwave™ can improve the appearance of these unwanted thread veins.

What is Veinwave™?

Veinwave™ utilises a technique known as 'thermo-coagulation' which is able to eradicate thread veins and vascular blotches. The machine uses an ultra-fine needle to pass a high frequency current into the vein, the heat causes the vein and its contents to collapse and the vein disappears immediately. Occasionally it leaves a small micro-crust (scratch) that will disappear after a matter of days.

Because the thermal energy is targeted only to the vein, there is no risk of burning, tissue damage or pigmentation. The treatment can be carried out at any time of the year and on all skin types. There is no bruising and no need for dressings. Thread veins on any part of the body can be treated. Generally only one treatment is needed.

Does Veinwave™ treatment hurt?

There is a little minor discomfort with a very slight burning sensation when the needle is withdrawn, but this disappears within a few seconds.

What are the side-effects of Veinwave™ treatment?

Most patients have no side effects. After treatment the area is slightly red and the final results can be seen after 48 hours. The slight marks along the line of the vein may remain for up to a week or two, and in some cases up to six weeks.

What causes thread veins?

The reason why some people are affected and others are not is unknown. There are though some predisposing factors. Heredity seems to play a part. Injury to the legs and long periods of standing are causative factors. In addition, more women than men seem to develop this condition as a result of pregnancy or hormones. Thread veins on the face can be aggravated by extremes of weather, alcohol and even spicy foods.

How can they be prevented on the legs?

The use of support hose, weight control and exercise may be beneficial.

Will the treated veins recur?

The veinwave™ treatment is usually 90% successful, however thread veins may recur. It may seem that a previously treated vein has recurred, whereas in fact a new thread vein has appeared in the same area.
